 <\/strong>Slicing through the cool inky Swedish summer night, steady driving music my companion, the countryside flew by.  Suddenly my navigation went dark.  Tapping the screen there was nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A moment ago I was following a preplanned route – everything was laid out, but now I\u2019m coasting to the intersection in a foreign country wondering which way to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flipping on the overhead light and unfolding a large map, it was the first time in a long time I\u2019d looked at the entire country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Figuring they knew best, I\u2019d chosen a travel “authority’s” top destinations and hit the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But now interesting places that I had all but forgotten rekindled my imagination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– I could go anywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I wondered, “If could go anywhere, which way should I go?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– I wasn’t sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each destination had their unique pluses and minuses.  After what seemed like more calculating than I would have expected I took my foot off the brake started forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But then stopped, unsure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pulling over again I recalculated – I put choices side-by-side like we\u2019re told to do-adding and subtracting, thinking and re-thinking, again and again\u2026   Every time I thought I had it all figured out and felt myself moving forward, doubt would creep in and I stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Excited to go one way, but not wanting to miss out on the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019d start and stop  – argh!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good grief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thought, \u201cNo wonder it\u2019s so hard to make real progress, to get where we really want to go \u2013 we\u2019re so bogged down in this tangled logic of \u201cwhat if\u2019s\u201d and \u201cyeah, buts\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It just seems to keep getting more complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– but what if it wasn\u2019t?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wondered, \u201cIf there was one question I could ask myself to cut through all the complication what would it be?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I did one thing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I changed my vantage point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I Imagined flying up and over this fork in the road and into the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imagining myself at home remembering my trip, I asked myself, \u201cWhat do I want my story to be?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there it was, a simple and immediate answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I knew exactly what I wanted my story to be and exactly where I wanted to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Placing my finger on that place on the map I traced the road back to where I was right now, I knew exactly how to get there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back on the road I was excited, I had this sense of knowing where I was going was right \u2013 and soon I was there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So can you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Try it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life, career, date, dinner..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you want your story to be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Really get a sense of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now lay down the tracks down from there to here – I call it Reverse Planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s your path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
